Strength Training, Part 1
The importance of strength training is one I have realized the older I get. When I was younger I focused on running, but as I started my training with IIn, I began to see the significance of adding strength training to my weekly movement rhythm. I challenged myself with diversity in my cardio and at least once a week of strength training, which has gradually increased to three times a week.
One thing that has made me enjoy training is working out with community. Community is another area that is very important for our well being, so to put the two together is a win! I started with two friends, who both had the same interest in adding strength to their week. When you workout out with friends you are held accountable and it is more enjoyable.
I also have added group strength, cardio and mobility classes with a great group in Charlotte, Cross Conditioning. The classes are challenging, but the instructors are focused on each individual to make sure that your movements are completed correctly to reach the most benefit.
Strength training is essential in helping with bone health, overall strength, sleep, increasing neuroplasticity, making new brain cells, and boosting mood. (source:Dr. Mark Hyman) To get the most out of your strength training it is important to make sure you are getting adequate nutrition and protein to help build lean muscle.
